Export formats
Choose SRT, VTT, ASS or LRC based on where the captions are going and whether you need line timing or precise word highlighting.
Which format should I choose?
Choose SRT for broad subtitle compatibility, VTT for web video, ASS when precise active-word highlighting needs to stay inside the exported file, and LRC for synced lyrics or music apps.
SRT — best for standard subtitles
SRT is the safest choice when you need ordinary subtitle text with caption start and end times. It is widely supported, easy to inspect and edit, and intentionally does not carry Synclyr's individual word-highlight timing.
VTT — best for web video
WebVTT is designed for timed text on the web. Synclyr exports normal cue timing and, when active-word highlighting is enabled, can include each word's start point. The player decides how those word timestamps are rendered and when a visual highlight appears to end.
ASS — best for precise word highlighting
ASS is the strongest choice when you want Synclyr's word-level activation timing to remain part of the subtitle file. Synclyr uses the effective word start and end timing, including global highlight offsets and manual per-word timing edits.
LRC — best for synced lyrics
LRC is a simple timed-lyrics format used by music and lyric applications. Synclyr exports the timed lyric or caption lines. Standard LRC does not preserve individual active-word highlighting.
Caption layout and export format are different decisions
Line or Word controls how Synclyr groups timed words inside the project. The export format controls what timing information the destination file can represent. Choosing Line does not erase the underlying word timing that formats such as ASS can use.
Word highlighting is not supported equally everywhere
SRT keeps caption-level timing only. Standard LRC keeps timed lines. VTT can carry word start markers, but playback behavior depends on the web player. ASS is the option to use when you need Synclyr to encode precise word activation timing into the file itself.
Your timing edits are applied before export
Caption offsets, individual caption timing, highlight offsets and supported per-word timing edits are reflected in the export generated from the current saved project state.
Exporting does not use processing minutes
Export is generated from timing you already have. Creating another SRT, VTT, ASS or LRC file does not rerun Sync or transcription.
For exact word highlight timing, choose ASS.
